STEMBERGER TO MAKE PUBLIC MEDIA COMMENT AFTER LEGAL ARGUMENTS IN MIAMI HEARING ON MARRIAGE AMENDMENT CHALLENGES

ORLANDO, FL–On Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in Miami, John Stemberger, the President and General Counsel of the Florida Family Policy Council will be available for public media comments immediately following the state court hearing in Miami attempting to challenge Florida’s Marriage Protection Amendment.

Attorneys Mat Staver and Harry Mihet of Liberty Counsel will be making oral arguments representing Florida Family Action, the legislative arm of the Florida Family Policy Council.  Staver who is Dean of Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia, is also the primary author of the language of Article 1, Section 27 of the Florida Constitution which states:  “Marriage defined.Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.”

Stemberger who heads Florida Family Action, also led the four year campaign which resulted in just under 5 million Floridians voting YES to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, resulting in a 62% victory at the ballot box in 2008.  The court in the case of Pareto vs Clerk of Court has allowed Florida Family Action to appear to make legal argument through its counsel as “Amicus Curiae” or friend of the court.
