For Immediate Release
January 16, 2014

(Orlando, FL) On Thursday, January 16, 2014, the Florida Family Policy Council in coordination with World Changers of Florida, and local churches will be distributing copies of the Bible on several Florida public high school campuses in Orange and Collier Counties.

In recognition of Religious Freedom Day, copies of the Bible will be made available for students to pick up a copy at tables during the lunch period of the school’s breaks.  Nine of the twenty high schools in Orange County are having Bibles distributed including Oak Ridge High School in Orlando where staff members of the Florida Family Policy Council will be delivering the Bibles between 11:30am and 12:15pm.  Local churches will also be helping provide volunteers for the effort including First Baptist of Wyndemere, Weslyan Sanctuary and Calvary Assembly Of God.  In Collier County about eight high schools are having Bibles distributed.

The volunteers at each school will leave the Bibles on designated tables with a sign indicating they are free and can be picked up if a student wishes to do so.  This arrangement has been approved by courts after a Collier County challenge to the procedure by atheist groups who objected to the practice.

John Stemberger, President of the Florida Family Policy Council commented:  “This is a great opportunity for students who may never be exposed to Christianity to own and read a book that is not only the best selling book of all times but is the most important piece of literature in the development of western civilization.  The Bible has had an enormous influence on our history, language, legal principles, culture and form of government.  Most importantly, this is a book that has the capacity to lead to a fundamental change in the condition of a student’s heart.”
